I qualified in Medicine with Honours in 2004 and undertook training in general medicine and gastroenterology until 2016. During this period, I also completed a postgraduate degree at the University of Sheffield, followed by a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in functional gastrointestinal disorders at the Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, Sweden. In late 2018, I was appointed Senior Clinical Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Gastroenterologist in Sheffield.

To date, I have successfully supervised 10 undergraduate BMedSci and postgraduate MD/PhD research students to thesis completion, including publications of original articles in high-impact journals. In view of my international expertise, I am a co-author of the British Society of Gastroenterology guidelines on the management of irritable bowel syndrome and functional dyspepsia. In 2021, I was awarded the United European Gastroenterology Rising Star Award, a prize recognising promising young clinician-scientists across Europe. I serve on the editorial board of Gastroenterology, a leading international journal in the field of GI diseases. I am also chair of the Rome Partners Group, whose mission statement is to foster an international partnership between the Rome Foundation and early/mid-career Neurogastroenterologists. In 2025, I was elected as a Rome Foundation Academic Fellow, having achieved international recognition as a clinical academic.

Research interests

My research interests are in functional gastrointestinal disorders (e.g. irritable bowel syndrome and functional dyspepsia) and gluten-related disorders.

Teaching interests
