- Profile

I joined HEDS in January 2014 as an assistant modeller studying part-time for the HEDM MSc. This was a change of direction following a 13 year career in biomedical research. I completed a BSc in Genetics in 1999 and followed this with a PhD in 2003, both from the University of Sheffield, before working at the University of Nice, France and the department of Biomedical Science at the University of Sheffield.
Within HEDS I specialise in public health-related modelling projects, focussing particularly upon modelling of diabetes and cardiovascular disease prevention, and development of return on investment tools. I have worked closely with Public Health England (PHE), NHS England and NICE for a series of projects modelling the return on investment of the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme, based upon adaptation of the School for Public Health Research Diabetes Prevention Model. More recently, I worked with PHE to develop a cardiovascular disease prevention return on investment tool. I am also part of the team working on the Sheffield bowel cancer screening model, which informs decisions about the UK bowel cancer screening programme.
