The is a strategic initiative supported by a £3.6m University of Sheffield investment, dedicated to the transformation and acceleration of research, innovation, and education on and with AI. As part of our expansion we are welcoming a talented and diverse group of new staff members, each bringing their unique skills, expertise and experience to our team.
is Director for the Centre and we are progressing our recruitment for interdisciplinary academic theme leads in AI. has recently started in her role as Senior Lecturer and Theme Lead in AI and In/equality. Susan brings an exciting and fresh perspective to the Centre and will focus on the broad theme of human-centric AI. She is building collaborations across and beyond the University, at home and abroad, with a focus on the social impact of AI. The recruitment for three further CMI academic positions (theme leads in AI for Materials, AI for Health and Robotics and Autonomous Systems) and three Academic Fellows in AI is progressing well and we hope to have news for these posts very soon!
We are also thrilled to announce appointments to key internal roles for the CMI: is our new Deputy Director. James has extensive experience working in the field of trustworthy autonomous systems and human robot co-working, particularly in manufacturing contexts. Taking on the roles of cross-cutting theme leads are (AI-Powered Spinouts and Entrepreneurship), (Upskilling in AI and Data Science) and , (Supporting Digital Education).
